Unexpected Bathroom Remodel

Last November I had a guy come out and give us an estimate to fix the grout in our shower in our ONLY bathroom. There were a few cracks in the grout & I didn't want to have any long-term damage. He estimated it would cost $350, so I finally had him come out this past Wednesday. He pulled off the tiles around the window to get started and found some rotting wood.

He would need to take off the tiles on the rest of the wall to see how far the damage went and he wasn't going to be able to save them. We opted to do this ourselves. Here are a couple of before pictures.

Matt came home at lunch that day and started pulling off the tiles. It looks like this has been happening for some time - since before we even bought the house.

Matt took Thursday off of work to continue the demolition of our bathroom.

The floor boards under the tub.

Our tub rusting out. Some of the cross beams underneath don't attach to anything anymore.

Leaking from the shower under the flooring by the toilet.

Matt called over Mike South on Friday night to run his ideas on how to go about repairing this. Lucky for us, Mike had seen and fixed pretty much this same thing before on his rental house. He was then nice enough to spend his weekend over at our house continuing with the destruction and the start of the repairs.

The damage continued into the siding of our house, so we currently have a hole in the side of our house and a hole in the floor where the shower once was.

Thank goodness Audrey was supervising.

Our bathroom at the end of the weekend.
By tomorrow night, the house should have a side to it again, the floor will be repaired and most of the re-framing will be done. We are also installing a smaller window. It of course started raining this morning, after being dry for the last 2 months, but at least we didn't start this last December.

Hopefully we will have a new tub and new tile installed in the next week, although the outside shower has been pretty pleasant.

Once we have a side to our house and a working INDOOR shower, we can start with the rest of the remodel and painting. We are hoping to be totally done by Thanksgiving. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Audrey in August

This last month has just flown by. We went to San Diego for Kevin & Sara's wedding and Audrey flew for the first time. She did really good! We were bad about taking pictures while we were there, so it is going to take some time for me to round up ones I know that other people took. Here are some pictures taken this month.

We went to Portland for a BBQ the last day of July and met up with Conor & Erin beforehand. Aren't they a cute couple? Only 3 days before they are married!

Audrey being silly!

Look at that red hair!

12 weeks old...growing up so fast.

3 months & 3 days old. Audrey doesn't quite fit in the sink anymore.
